Can it get much CAS than this? Scandinavian style.

Morning all....it's nearly time for a New year to start.....what are your plans?
Do you make resolutions?
How long is it before you break them?  LOL.
My first New Years resolution should be to tidy this craft room and have a clear out.  The state it is at the moment really doesn't encourage the creative juices to flow.  Before I start it though I have a date baking with my eldest and a whole heap of ironing to tackle.

Thanks for all your well wishes and lovely comments after my last post.  I really appreciate it.  Both my youngest and I are fine now.
I was away for blood tests this morning just to make sure my symptoms are nothing serious and now have to play the waiting game, but I am feeling much better.
I'm not at work now till Friday and Saturday so I'm planning to catch up on jobs and friends, oh and it would be lovely to have a wee craft.
We got a few new board games for Christmas too so planning on having some fun with the kids also.

The card today is very simple and the stamps are all by Waltzing Mouse.  I love the Scandinavian style which has been as popular this year as it was last.

I was thinking woolly jumpers whilst making this quick card before Christmas.  I think I could have blinged it up a bit more with clear crystals rather than a red one, hindsight is a wonderful thing!
In my defence it was flat to post and quick to make which was just perfect when so busy with work before Christmas.

How is the weather with you?
It's grey and dreich here in the North of Scotland but after the recent bad weather I believe the south have had the worst of it.  My thoughts are with you if you were affected and I hope you are able to get back to normal as soon as possible.  For some though it may be a long time.

Right I better go and get my baking head on, enjoy the rest of your day.  x

Staying warm.....hooker style!

Hi folks and it finally caught up with me, all the fun of the festive season saw me take to my bed yesterday rather than going into work.  (And I never take to my bed!)
Then my wee man started in the early hours of this morning too.  Best paint a cross on door!
Actually he has bounced back quicker than me and was asking for sweets this afternoon as if nothing had happening in the early hours of the day.  Bless.
On the upside I think both are unrelated so fingers crossed it stops there.

Rather than dwell on the unpleasant I thought I'd finally share the picture of my little baby crocheted hats I made for Christmas.

This is for my friends little girl Poppy, and the whole reason I was practising crocheted poppy's earlier in the year.  I do hope she likes it and it fits.
I also made a slightly bigger one for my youngest niece the next size up from Poppy's.

Slightly different in size and shape but I have to admit my favourite is the red and biscuit one.

I really enjoyed making these although I had to have a couple of practise runs at crocheting in a round at first.  I was also introduced the wonders of using markers!  OMG how good are they?!
It's the simple things that make life easier.

So what have you been up to this weekend.  We've had a quiet one, because we've had too.
This afternoon was spent snuggled up on the sofa watching The Croods with my boys, what a great film, very funny indeed.
I have a mountain of ironing and other things to do but it can all wait....it will still be there tomorrow.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I'll be back soon.  x

Merry Christmas everyone.

Oh well I didn't get a post up on Christmas eve or yesterday.  #Busy chilling in the real world.
Did he visit you?
He's been here.
Christmas eve was spent making sure I had all the last minute food bits and bobs, wrapping and delivering presents.
Christmas day was an early start in this house with the kids up at 6.  Excited!  Mind you my husband was up for a 12 hour shift also so it was nice to open the presents with him before he headed off for the day.
I had a lovely walk on the beach with my best mate and our dogs, no snow here just bright blue skies.
Later in the morning we popped into hubby's work to see how his day was going before I came home and cracked on with the lunch.  The rest of my day was spent chilling, watching films, eating and drinking....a relaxing Christmas day.
I'll be back in the kitchen today as I have a big joint of beef from work for later, a family tradition, we always have beef on Boxing day followed by a walk along the beach or to the woods.

So what am I sharing today?
In the true spirit of Christmas I thought I'd share my Christmas cake with you.  I have followed Mary Berry's recipe this year and added a little extra brandy!

It even fits in my new glass dome.  Just!

Back to normal here tomorrow as I head into work both Friday and Saturday.  I think there will be lots of tidying to do after the carnage that is Christmas in the retail world.  It should be fun!

I hope you are enjoying the festive season.  I'll be back again soon.  x

MIA and not crafting in sight.

Hi all, bet you are wondering what had happened?
Probably not, as you are all in the same boat so to speak.
I have my last shift at work tonight after working full time for the last couple of weeks...my....that has been a shock to the system!  Work has been all variations of manic!
On the upside the time passes very quickly and there is always good food available to keep you topped up.

Along with that I have been writing my cards and wrapping presents together with all the other little jobs that this time of year brings.

Today I have my Christmas cake to ice and the rest of the presents to wrap.
My food shop was done first thing this morning with a view to putting my feet up tomorrow and relax.
With that in mind I hope to find time for a better post tomorrow for you all.

Meantime good luck with all your festive preparations and take care out there!  x

What birthday card do you send to a man with a "chuck" business?

Morning all, missing in action again just late.  That's me got the next couple of days off after 7 days in work before the final Christmas onslaught from Thursday to Christmas eve.  You know what that means?
Over the next couple of days I want to wrap up Christmas, finish my shopping, wrap the presents, make my Christmas cake (yes, it still needs to be made) and write my Christmas cards!
I also have all the housework, ironing and food shopping and the cherry on the cake......my youngest boys advent tomorrow.  I think I'd be better off at work!  ;)
How are you getting on?
All organised?
Would you believe I am also still looking at making some presents as well!
On the Saturday before Christmas we are wearing Christmas jumpers to work instead of uniform....now I'm afraid that is one thing I do not own.  So yep, you've guessed it, I shall be trying to come up with something on that front too before Saturday....I think that will be an evening job.

Back to today and just for a change I have a bespoke order I made recently for my BF.  The brief.....it must have a chicken on it.
Now this card was for, I believe, the owner of Allarburn Dairy in Elgin.  If you haven't been to their farm shop or cafĂ© it really is a must.

I've had the die for the chicken for many years, it is a Quickutz die.  I can't believe it's taken me years to use it.  It might have to come back out for Easter now I've dusted it down.

What have you got planned today?
I'm away now to put my Christmas cake in the oven....#lastminute!
I will get there honest.....best I finish decorating the house too.
Have a super day and I'll be back tomorrow with more.

Have a jolly holly Christmas.

Ho, ho, ho, good afternoon all.  Back again today with another simple Christmas card on a similar theme to yesterdays.  This embossing folder was in a twin pack with yesterday folder and I could just not resist having a play with it too.

I have embossed the card then added ink on the leaves before dabbing with my green perfect pearls and red stickles.  The sentiment is by PI.

Today I spent the morning in work and this afternoon had my youngest boy's assembly.  This evening I hope to make some mince pies and my Christmas cake after tea so I better get moving.
Have a super weekend, I'm in work for most of it.  Take care and I'll catch up with you later on Monday.  x

A little Christmas foliage, Tim Holtz Alterations style.

Back again with a wee post for you this evening, better late than not at all.
This next card I am showing you I made at our Christmas crop a couple of weeks ago now.  A couple of days ago I was checking out my twitter account and found out that a well known crafter from the states had done exactly the same background as me, same colours, everything.  How spooky is that?!  Talk about being on the same wave length.  Bizarre!
Anyway here is my card.

The sentiment stamp is by Unity stamps and the embossing folder by Tim Holtz Alterations.
I have added embossing ink to the raised area then silver Pearl ex.
Again another simple card.

I'm away now to put up my Christmas decorations!
I'm going to try and get in the festive spirit, maybe a wee dram might help....ho, ho, ho!

WestJet Christmas Miracle: real-time giving

I had to share this on my blog as a friend posted it on Facebook and thought it was just magical and in the true spirit of Christmas.

Christmas tag.....your it!

Hi folks, another busy day at work today.  I'm such a lightweight and feeling positively weary this evening....no staying power.
Tonight I thought I'd share tags with you.  It's not fancy tags today but clean and simple ones for all the mountains of Christmas presents you will be sending in the next couple of weeks.  This is a great way to use up odds and ends from throughout the year with the simple addition of a couple of punches, bling/glitter, ribbon or string.

Why not get the kids involved too!

I saw something very similar in a high end boutique recently and had a light bulb moment!
Those old punches that you don't use but keep for the kids to play with....get them out and have some fun with them.
I'm sure you'll agree it's a simple and easy way to use up all those scraps of card and can be easily co-ordinated to match any wrap.

I love the last one in the green.  Which is your favourite?
Why not have a go at this simple idea?

That's all from me today, my boys have drumming and then I have a crochet flower to make.
Enjoy the rest of your evening.  x

Ho, ho, ho......a very late post indeed....time for another CAS Christmas card!

Hi all and what a busy day I've had at work again today.  I thought I'd share a quick card with you this evening before I go and finish my second crocheted hat.  Yes the first one took a couple of weeks and the second a couple of nights, that's what I call progress!
So here is another CAS card for you this evening.

Another black and cream number.  The embossing folder is from sizzix and the stamp is by SU.
Nice and simple.

Well folks I'm signing off now to go and relax with a ball of yarn.  Another late post for me tomorrow with work during the day.  Have a good one and I'll hopefully catch up with you again tomorrow evening.

Anyone it would think it was Christmas?!

Morning all, how are you all?
How are your Christmas plans coming along?

I have failed miserably on the card front with only makes for immediate family, M & S are providing the rest, slap wrists!
I would usually beat myself up about this but you know what, why bother?
There is enough pressure at this time of year to create the perfect Christmas without worrying about what really isn't that important.  In my defence the new printer I got doesn't do what I want it to do so went back.  I am therefore resigned to hand writing everything until another new one arrives.  I usually print my news on the inside of my cards together with up to date photos...guess that won't be happening.

How was your weekend?
A busy day for me in M & S Saturday....anyone would think there was a special celebration coming up soon!
I don't mind being busy at all, the day passes so quickly and before you know it it's time to go home.
Sunday was a lazy day for me as I wasn't feeling the best, guess that's the shock of working more hours!  Part-timers.....just can't take the pace!
I seem to be better today so lots to catch up on, for a start I've still got all my cards to sort and my Christmas cake to make.  Better soak my fruit today so I can make the cake later this week.
I'm in work 5 days this week too so better get cracking with all things at home, whilst I do that I thought I'd leave you with one of the cards I made at the Christmas crop.

A none traditional coloured CAS Christmas card for you.  I love black and cream, such a classic combination.  The tree stamp is by Clarity stamps and the sentiment by Waltzing Mouse, the trees have been stamped in black and then embossed with iridescent powder, you can't see the sparkle with my photography, sorry.  The edging is a EK Success punch called plaid.
I must mention this all the time but I really am enjoying the less is more approach to card making just now, it's flat for posting too, that's got to be good for Christmas, no?!

Anyway I better go and crack the stick, kitchen decorating, ironing, housework etc....today is going to be a fun day!
I hope you have a super week and more from me later tomorrow.  x

Take one felt pattern and adjust.......what else can you do with it?

Where did yesterday go?  Did you miss me?
LOL.
The busy time at work has started and no sooner am I home then the kids are too, then round 2 starts.  Yesterday evening there was a craft fair at my youngest boys school too so it would have been rude not to pop in for that.  By the time I was home I just flopped in front of the TV with my crocheting.
And chillaxe!

Today another day in work and up early again tomorrow morning....food glorious food!
I thought I'd share yesterdays picture and todays in this post as I didn't get near the computer yesterday after work.
I took the pattern from Percy, my earlier post, and adjusted slightly and this is what I came up with.....

A wee tweak and we have Robby the robin...and how about......

Olly the owl?
Just a few new decorations for the Christmas tree this year.
Do you make your own tree decorations?

Short and sweet from me today.  Have a super weekend and wrap up warm.....it's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas....the weather has dropped quite a lot the last couple of days.
Take care and I'll be back soon with more.  x

Wednesday, December 04, 2013

We've had paper, card, wool and cotton yarn.....so how about a bit of felt today.

Afternoon all...my it's a cold outside!
It was freezing on the beach this morning, but I was awake by the time I got home.
I had a text yesterday asking if I could work the rest of the week so there was my planned Christmas card making out of the window.  Having said that I had a fun day at work today, the festive season is definitely in full swing, busy, busy, busy!  Everyone one was in good cheer with even a few festive songs....and more food than you could shake a stick at.  Ho, ho, ho!

Whilst I catch up on things I should have done earlier remember I mentioned I was making some felt items....it wasn't nearly as exciting as bunting....I think Patricia guesses that one.....it was this little chap here....

Meet Percy the Penguin.

Every year I like to make something new to go on our family Christmas tree and this year it is Percy's turn.  I got this in kit form from my pal Karen a couple of Christmases' ago and hadn't had chance to make it up.
Tomorrow I'll show you what I made when I altered the pattern slightly....can you guess?!

I had another evening last night crocheting then taking out more!  But then a miracle happened and I finally have a proper little hat now.....but it looks very small.  You can not imagine how chuffed I am....I'm sure a seasoned crocheter would have made half a dozen by now!  I shall have to take a picture and show you when it is finished.  Got the flower to make now and just the rim to finish.  I'm hoping to get to it later this evening.
Anyway that's all from me today back late again tomorrow after work, enjoy your Wednesday evening....middle of the week again already....where does the time go?!

As wise as an owl, sizzix style!

Hi folks and a late post from me tonight....I really should be making tea but have just snuck away to update this.  Busy day today, mega food shop this morning and then a little boy home from school for lunch and a pal around this afternoon.
I don't know where the day has gone.
I also had a mad dash out this evening to pick up a new printer as mine gave up the ghost yesterday after one of my boys had been using it!

Today's card I am sharing is the one I made for my pal Irene who had a birthday at the weekend.  She has been helping me with my crocheting so it seemed only fitting to use this wise bird for the card.

I do love this sizzix die, I've also used a couple of embossing folders and googly eyes too.  Clean and simple again with a colour scheme that matches her room.

Last night I had a bit of a mare with my baby hat again....took out more than I left in!  At this rate I could have crocheted at least another one.  Sometimes the instructions really are not very clear for a beginner....but I am determine to get there.

Anyway short tonight as I better get the tea sorted then I might just get around to unpacking my new toy!
Have a super evening and I promise I'll be back a little earlier tomorrow.

What do you call a gaggle of Christmas crafters?!

On Sunday just gone is was our annual Christmas all day crop and we had a full house.  We all brought food for lunch and goodies for later in the day and got to work crafting.
Great fun was had by all....mind you some were more productive than others.  I only managed 5 cards and 1/2 a dozen simple Christmas tags but one of the girls did all her Christmas cards.....way to go!

Here's a picture of the happy band of crafters just after lunch...you can tell by the smiles!

It was also two of the girls birthdays....what better way to spend the day?  Crafting and cake!
A winning combination.

Thanks for a lovely day ladies and for all the fabby grub too.  A full tummy, lots of giggles, chat and crafting, a perfect way to spend a Sunday.

Back to today and I have a couple of bespoke orders to crack on with first and a couple of postings for the other blog I am involved in.  Whilst I mention that you might like to pop on over and have a read.  It's a Creative world are running the 12 days of Christmas crafty inspiration with not one but two posts a day!
I'm loving today's post by Leanne.....it's so on my to do list before Christmas.  A great stocking filler!

The kitchen decorating has ground to a halt over the weekend as my other half is back on shift and I'm trying to get on top of Christmas before my hours at work increase. Will it be finished in time for Christmas?
I doubt it, but heigh ho....that's how things go when you are doing it yourself...or should I really say "ho, ho, ho!"
We will get there eventually.

Last night when I got home I tackled my crocheted bonnet again.  I think I took more stitches out than I finished.....I was going great guns till I thought it didn't look right and decided to take it out and start again.  Still I think I have now got it....whatever "it" might be.  I'm hoping to finish it later in the day when I get chance.
I have a boy home for lunch and another with chanter lessons later but do hope to sit by the fire in the warm and crochet eventually.

That's all from me today enjoy your Monday....not long now!
More from me tomorrow.  x

On my Santa wish list....the gelli plate.

Today I thought I'd share this video with you.  It's on my Santa list!  But what size to get?!
Doesn't it look like "much fun!"
I've always admired those crafty ones amongst us who do a lot of the altered art journaling pages.  It always looks so complicated.
I've had a go layering on paper one stage at a time and it can take ages. This little bit of kits takes all the effort out and looks like fun in the bargain.
I even think the kids would enjoy this.

What's on today's agenda....I'm wallpapering again this morning and then I have a couple of birthday cards to make.
Busy with other things today.
Then this weekend I have a busy dine in Saturday at work followed by our Christmas crafty get together on Sunday.  I'm hoping to get the bulk of my Christmas cards made up as I've got extra hours in work every week from now till after the festive season.....the countdown commences.
Have a super weekend and I shall be back next week with more crafty fun!

He's coming very soon.....ho, ho, ho, scrapbooking style.

Afternoon all, another later post for me today.
I had a quick dash to Inverness earlier today, spending time out with my hubby and sorting some more Christmas bits and bobs out.
Now we've got some more wallpapering to crack on with in my kitchen.....yes I know it's a stupid time of year to decorate any room, never mind the kitchen!
Whilst I'm beavering away and because I've got my Christmas head on, with shopping earlier and starting the mammoth card making yesterday, I thought I'd share this Christmas layout with you.

I have used papers from Little Yellow Bicycle Christmas delight range.
The ribbon, bling, tags, rub ons and acrylic star are from my own stash.

The photo was taken at MacKenzie and Cruickshank in Forres...the place to go for beautiful homemade soup and special scones locally, nom, nom!
We visited the garden centre a couple of years ago around Christmas time, we had gone for Christmas soup and a cheese scone, delish.
On the way out we noticed that they had a Santa and our youngest boy asked to see him.
It was great VFM as you got a photograph and a gift plus there was no queue to speak of, but best of all was Santa himself.
He had a lovely chat with my youngest asking him what he wanted for Christmas etc...but as he was finished he called my eldest boy over. (Who as a teenager, doesn't do Santa!)
He told the boys that mum and dad help him with the run up to Christmas so he thought it would be a great idea if the following morning the kids made us breakfast in bed.
Like that would happen!!

Well it did!
I heard my youngest the following morning telling his big brother "remember what Santa said....he might not come if we don't!"
So the wee one made us the biggest bowls of cornflakes with oodles of milk.
(My first job when I got up was to clear up the mess made whilst beavering away in the kitchen, LOL.)
The oldest made us a cup of hot tea....now I know you are questioning why I have said "HOT"?!
Well, on the odd occasion in the past when he has made us a cup of tea, usually when he is after something.....he doesn't always wait for the kettle to finish boiling, apparently it takes far too long when you've got somewhere else you'd rather be!

I had to make a scrapbook page with the story just to remind him for when he is older.  I wish I found more time to scrapbook for my two because it doesn't seem five minutes since they both were babies, but time just seems to fly by.  Every year I say I'm going to try and make the time, maybe next year will be the one to catch up?

As for the rest of my day here, parents evening later tonight, gulp!  The first one for my eldest since he's been in his new school.  It could be interesting.  Then home and maybe a bit more work on my baby bonnet which is looking much better this time around.
Enjoy the rest of your Thursday and I'll be back with more tomorrow.  x

Celebrating your Wedding day!

Afternoon all, I've been good today and have finished my housework before coming to blog and craft.  I've got that nice feeling that everything is tidy and clean so now I can play.....not that it will last for very long!

Last week I was asked to create a Wedding card for a couple that married abroad earlier in the year.
The brief was classy with a peach and cream colour combo.
Now those who know me.....know the state of my craft room and the fact it is overflowing with crafty loveliness....could I find a sheet of peach card!?!
I have to admit it isn't a colour combo I have been asked for many years, if my memory serves me correctly it was big in the mid 80's?!
I might be wrong but it is said that fashion goes round in a big circle?
Anyway another CAS card here.....

I love using the Spellbinder square and Fleur de lis square to create a frame.
It creates a simple yet elegant card, perfect for weddings.
I have added card stock from the Papeterie and Ranger, with pearls and satin ribbon from my stash.  The wording was printed on the computer.

So what do I have planned for the rest of the day.  I have another 1/2 dozen cards like the one posted yesterday just ready to put together.  I've started crocheting a baby bonnet for a Christmas gift too....to be honest I've had a couple attempts at following the pattern...but I think this last attempt is looking much better.  Practise makes perfect!
I think the hardest part in crocheting is my lack of knowledge.  I'm finding I can do the stitches but then putting them in practise following a pattern with confidence is a whole other ball game.

Finally this evening I shall be taking the boys drumming and band practise and maybe a wee sneaky look in the auctions.

Enjoy the rest of your Wednesday.  x

So what does a crafter buy.......when out Christmas shopping?!

Hi folks.
Before I start "Happy Thanksgiving" to all my American friends and British friends living over the pond.  I hope you all have a super time.  x

After a wet and windy walk along the beach this morning is was lovely to be in the warm, a cup of tea in hand, crafting.  Remember I mentioned the lovely lady I visited recently to help guide with card making?
Well, this morning I popped back to see how she had been getting on.
Great would be the first answer and she had a lovely bright new shiny Big shot for me to play with too!
Yikes I think I've another convert to the wonderful world of paper crafts!
And why not, we could be doing far worse!
Card making and crafting is such fun at the best of times but even better to share.
On that note what are you making today?
The dreaded Christmas cards maybe?

I thought I'd share my recent purchases that I bought whilst out and about in Inverness last week.

A 12" deep box frame to make a picture for Christmas, pink wool to crochet a hat for my niece, dishcloth cotton and the basic shape and snaps to make my own crackers for Christmas day.  I do prefer to make my own crackers as you can personalise the gifts inside.  Last time I made them I put in mini bottles of whiskey for the men, handmade jewellery for the ladies and lots of sweets for the children.
I know it isn't a very exciting group of goodies but they'll look much better when I've added a little homemade work to them.  (That's the theory anyway!)
I did notice that Tonic now do a die for a Christmas cracker and got all excited at being able to rattle loads off  till I read the size.  Bless it is a lovely die but it's a wee one!
Come on Spellbinders we would like a cracker die for the Calibur, pretty please with a cherry on top.

That's all I'm afraid from me today, I have dental appointments to go and organise tonight.  Back tomorrow with more.  x

Dec the halls.....fa la la la!

Morning all and it's a bright crisp day here in sunny Scotland.  It's just a wee bit nippy but that fairly wakes you up with a brisk walk on the beach.  Sunny and cold is much better than dreich, don't you agree?

Today I am sharing a card that I made for my post at the weekend for It's a Creative World.  Last year I made some Christmas kits up that didn't get used.  It therefore made perfect sense as they're cut out and ready to go, to use them before embarking on another style of card.
I tend to do Christmas cards in batches that way it doesn't become a chore!
This card isn't made as I had originally planned in kit form....of course, I've changed style just a tad over the last 12 months so it has been tweaked.

For this project I have used Spellbinder Heirloom die 2012 together with embossing folders Pine branch by Tim Holtz and Dot swirl by Hero Arts.  I have added clear rock candy to my branch....it wouldn't be Christmas without a little sparkle.  Sentiment stamp is by Paula Pascual's Large Christmas.
I'm much preferring clean and simple lines just now especially when we have so many Christmas cards to rattle through.

But first today I have a couple of bespoke orders to do and a class to sort for tomorrow.  Then time permitting I might get some more Christmas cards made up.

Did you all have a good weekend?
I had a good day at work on Saturday, getting busier now as the run up to Christmas is in full flow.  Saturday night spent chilling watching Strictly and I'm a Celebrity, a lovely M and S meal and drink.
Yesterday I got up to date on my ironing and made some Christmas decorations as well as all the usual Sunday activities.
This week my intention is to get ahead of the game for Christmas with my cards, presents and baking.  Mind you my kitchen is in the early stages of being decorated so that might need to take priority.
Have a good week folks, back tomorrow.  x

Ho, ho, ho! Where have I been?

Did you miss me, bet you didn't.  Sorry for being MIA the last couple of days, deadlines to meet and jobs to do.
Monday and Tuesday I had my children off school for in-service days so that kept me busy with other things.
On Wednesday I had a lovely day out with my pal Irene, we went to Inverness and did some Christmas shopping.  I got some stocking fillers for my family and it would of been rude not to visit the local crafty shops too.  I shall share my purchases with you next week as the lighting today is very poor.  It is another dreich and dreary day with no blue sky at all out my window and there is a definite nip in the air.  Brr!  Winter is coming.

Today I am sharing a topper I made a while ago with a Christmassie feel as I chomp my way through an M & S mince pie with my cup of tea, nomm!
The being good on the food front has gone out of the window of late and the more I think about getting on track the more mince pies I seem to scoff!
I just love the food at this time off year, the cakes and the cheeses together with the mulled wine and spirits....all really should be out of bounds......but where would be the fun in that?!  What I need to really do is go and light the fire and get my making head on as all these Christmas presents and cards need making.  How are you getting on?
Are you super organised and have everything ready?
I'm not.....last minute.com here.
I do get there eventually mind you, not that it really matters this year as my hubby is working Christmas we have no visitors coming.  I think Christmas day will be a quiet affair, the kids will play and not want to do anything else so I might get to craft!
We're having our Christmas day on Boxing day instead.  Although I'll still probably cook all the usual on the day just on a smaller scale.

Here's a Santa......distressed style.

I have used Christmas miracle by Tim and Hero arts dots, vintage photo ink, glimmer mist gold, liquid pearl white and bling.
I love a vintage Christmas feel, don't you?

I've got a couple of bespoke cards to make this afternoon and then I better get myself organised for another early morning in work tomorrow.  Have a super weekend all and stay warm and cosy.  x

A stitch in time.....

Afternoon all and what a dreich cold day we are having up here in the North of Scotland....brrr!
We had our first laying of snow last night with more forecast but, as yet, it was no more than a dusting and has gone already.  Mind you with more on the horizon....I don't want to speak too soon.  Needless to say if you haven't already....it's time to get out those woollies!

As I mentioned in earlier posts I am at the moment working on a couple of posts for an up coming event at It's a Creative world, another blog I write for.  We are planning some fun in the run up to Christmas with lots of different crafty ideas for you.  The fun starts on the 1st so don't forget to pop over and have a look.
I thought I'd be a little naughty and give you a sneak preview of my first post which will be on the afternoon of the 3rd of December....think felt......here......

Mmmm what can it be?
Sorry but you'll have to wait and see.

Such a tease!!

Short and sweet from me today.
I have an appointment with an iron to keep and more crafting to do later.
Stay warm.  x

Teaching head on today.

Hi back today after a busy weekend.
A mad day at work Saturday followed by a lovely day yesterday crafting with friends.  Lots of giggles and crafting with a few cuppa's and a bit of cake!  A perfect afternoon.

Today I did something different again.  Last week I had a call from a lovely lady in Elgin who is recovering from being ill.  It was suggested to her that a bit of card making was just the rehabilitation ticket she required.  I went to her home this morning and we had some fun making cards.  I introduced her to stamping and we made these cards, a kit I had left from a previous class.

I think she enjoyed herself.
I might have transferred a bit more of the crafting bug too.  Well it would be rude not to!
It's got me wanting to have a play myself now.  If only there was more hours in the day!
No chance just now, the boys are off school and I have three posts to create for the other site I work on.  We are planning lots of festive inspiration for the start of December.  I'm afraid it's is another.....watch this space and I will share with you soon speech!

Did you have a super creative weekend too?
I'll be back tomorrow with more crafty fun.  x

Playing again last night but not with paper.

Morning, just....I don't know where the day is going today.  A couple of phone calls down and a potter around and it's nearly lunch time.
It was fairly blowing a gale on the beach this morning for our early walk, the temperature seems to have dropped this week and it isn't looking rosy for next week.  Snow is forecast...great!  Not.  Winter is on it's way most definitely.

I haven't been crafting in my room on an evening as I do in the summer months basically because it gets too cold, preferring to stay in my front room by the fire and crochet or sew.  Sensible!
It does however mean that card production has ground to a halt as I prefer to do my jobs before giving myself time to play.  This in theory is a good idea but by the time I am happy to play the kids are home or it's dark and getting cold.  That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
Last night I decided to play with some wool that the lovely Tina gave me.  It is designed for knitting but I thought I'd have a go crocheting a scarf....

Work in progress!
That was one ball of wool, going to need a lot more to make a scarf.  It is lovely and soft and chunky too but think it would work a lot better knitted as it should be.  Watch this space.....I need to go and find my grans old knitting needles and give it a go.  It will probably have to wait till after Christmas.
Learning as I am going along.  Not everything works first time!

I am planning on having some playtime later today but we will see.  I have uniform to iron and a few jobs first.  Tomorrow it's a dine in day at work so it will be a busy day and then on Sunday I'm meeting with friends to craft.  It should be fun.
It only remains for me to sign off and wish you all the very best over the weekend.  Catch you soon and wrap up warm.  x

Shhh here's my latest stash additions but don't tell 'im in doors!

Morning all, it's a dreich and grey day here today, just been blown away on the beach and the tide was right in.  I'm awake now!

Before I continue my post I wanted to put my serious head on.
One of my husbands colleagues, who now lives the other side of the world, partner comes from the area in the Philippines that was hit recently by typhoon Haiyan.  If you have been watching the news the area has been totally devastated with many life's lost.  They've both been beside themselves with worry all week waiting for news from the family.
They found out yesterday that all the family have survived but are in a dreadful state.  No aid has got to them all week.  They have no food and water, with disease rife due to the number of those who did not make it all around.
We are in the process today of trying to send some aid out to help him as we know him personally but I wanted to encourage folk to give to the disaster fund if you can.  I know things are tight especially at this time of year but we spoke about it with our kids last night and all agreed to reduce the spend at Christmas and send some money to help instead.
It's at times like this that natures power reminds us of what really is important.  x

Yesterday I promised to show you my recently acquired stash from Irene's SU party.
Feeling the guilt at showing this along with the above post but in my defence these items were bought and paid for before the disaster occurred.

Oh my!
Just don't tell my other half, cause I NEEDED it all.  Ain't that right girls?!  (Not!)
I'm hoping to get to it later today as the weather isn't great.
A day in the warm is requires.  So time to crack on with my jobs, the sooner they're done the sooner I can play.
Take care all and happy crafting.  x

It ain't cards and it ain't crocheting.....so what was I playing with last night?!*

I've just read back my title today and think I also need to add......keep it clean!  LOL.
It is perfectly innocent, honestly!

Last night I had my thinking cap on as the other blog I write for, It's a Creative World, are having a Christmas special and I've been trying to come up with something different for my posts on there.  Mmmm what to do.

Every Christmas I like to make a new decoration for our Christmas tree, it has become a bit of a ritual.  A couple of years ago I got some felt kits from another crafty pal and had only made one pack so last night I set to work on the other.  Oh what fun to be doing something different for a change....so now I'm needing to get up in the loft today and see if I can find my box of felt!
Whilst making my decoration I had a bit of a bright spark moment and thought I can alter the design I am working on and make at least two other items.....got you intrigued now haven't I?
Of course I have to post all this first on the other blog, such a spoil sport, today I thought I'd share the reindeer I made a couple of years ago from the other kit, to give you an idea of what I am talking about.

These kits are designed by paper-and-string.co.uk, simple shapes but very cute, don't you think?

Remember I mentioned earlier that I love all things Pinterest?
I saw these little beauties on there and just had to make some for myself and a couple of friends as Christmas gifts.  I had made similar gingerbread men previous years but loved the addition of the red gingham skirt.
These are very similar to the originals on Pinterest but with me taking no profit from them is that allowed?  As I mentioned earlier I take it as a compliment that someone else likes your work and do agree it would be wrong to start churning them out to sell.  This is my take....

Too cute not to hang on your tree right?

My plans for today.....mmmm, I would dearly love to pop into the auctions again....just in case I'm missing something!
Better crack on with my jobs instead and maybe some more crafting later.
I got my SU parcel yesterday afternoon from my pal Irene's party....might show you what goodies I have to play with tomorrow....must sit on my hands and get jobs done first!
Boo!
Have a super Wednesday.  Hugs.  x

I've gone hooking mad!

Morning another bright crisp day here in sunny Scotland.  I've got to pop out this morning an pick up some goodies in town so it's a quick post.
Remember I mentioned that I have been madly crocheting away?
Here is a sample of some of the items I have been making.

I think I may have the hang of cloths but I started making a baby hat yesterday.....mmmmm....need more practise.  I do find the hardest part is following a pattern and keeping count!  Too hard!  LOL.
I will crack it.  I don't give in and will not be beaten!

That's all for me today, just to let those of you know who are not on my Face book the total raised for the British Legion selling my poppy's was £102.25.  Thanks to all who donated, the money had gone to such a good cause this morning.  x

Monday morning blues......Spellbinder style!

Morning all.
Another weekend over, did you have a good one?
A busy day at work Saturday with some great 1/2 deals just now on sweeties and biscuits with the free wine meal deal and Chinese/Curry meal deals.
The right decision on Strictly Saturday night too.

On Sunday I took the kids on a lovely walk in the woods whilst their Dad went to the Remembrance service even though he'd just come off a 12 hour night shift.  He did brush up well!
We found a rope swing in the woods which the boys had great fun on whilst the dog ran around jumping through the undergrowth attacking every stick she could!
I didn't take my camera, but wish I had.  It was a lovely sunny morning if not a little chilly but I could of had some perfect shots.
The afternoon was spent catching up on housework and a little crocheting.....a perfect Sunday.  My eldest even cooked tea....I do hope this is something he intends to repeat.
Mind you I've just had to pick him up from school.  #notfeelingwell!  That's my plans for today changed.

Moving on today I am showing you another card that I sent to Making cards back in the summer which wasn't used.  It was a rejig of an earlier card I'd made which I'd emailed them details of.  Unfortunately something very similar appeared on the Spellbinder gallery after my original was posted on Pinterest so it wasn't used.  Such is life.  Its the nature of sharing and I'd like to think of it as a compliment.  Either that or we just have the same creative style which is also a possibility.
I was once told by someone there is very little in the way of truly original ideas out there but I'd like to think there is.
I would be lying if I didn't say that I find Pinterest a very inspirational and wonderful site to get your creative juices flowing.  If I get creative block, a few hours spent on there is the best thing to kick start your motivation.  General the idea that creates the spark usually in the end fires something entirely different.  How does that work?  Personally I don't know but it does work for me.
What inspires you?

Back to the card......

For this card I have used Spellbinder dies D-Lites Fantastic Flourish three, Tear drop circles,
Labels 20 and 14, with sentiment by Hero arts Very special.  The card is from The Papeterie in Aberdeen and is navy and white, with navy pearls to finish.

I do seem to have got out of the card making habit just lately but with a pile of new stamps awaiting ink I can feel my fingers itching to crack on and play.  Maybe later today I will get some time?
Have a super Monday and I hope all is well with you.  x

Madly crocheting away for Christmas but here is this weeks finds......

Back again.  A beautiful walk was had this morning, a nice crisp wander on the beach in the beautiful sunshine.  I am most definitely awake now.

As I mentioned in a earlier post I am now starting on my Christmas presents so am unable to share just now.  Going to have lots of nice posts for you over the festive season instead.  I hope!  LOL.
I haven't mentioned the auctions the last couple of weeks as my bids have been unsuccessful.....it's all in the look of the draw, who's there and who has the same taste as you.  This week it was the antique sale and OMG if only I was starting a house from scratch.  There was some beautiful items of furniture which I unfortunately can not home....even if I wanted to.  All I'm going to say on the matter is....they don't make furniture like that anymore!
I did however have a wee rummage in another of my favourite shops TKMax (but you've so got to be in the mood for a rummage!)
I found this........

I'm thinking a wee wash.....new bright red Christmassie ribbon and it will look lovely filled with either kitchen bits or embellishments.  I would love to receive something like this filled with buttons, charms and embellishments, wouldn't you?
I'm working on the principal if I would then maybe someone else would too?!
Mind you I'm looking at it thinking will I fit it in my own kitchen or craft room instead.....me likie so much!  LOL.

I also got another parcel this morning, which is very bad of me.  You see when I go Christmas shopping I always find things that I like and this was a billy bargain.  I could not resist!
I just tell my other half that I've got everything I want for Christmas.  Saves him a job too.
A little light reading.......

I do like this books.
I've read quite a few in the series and am really happy that none of them are here.  Yippee.
Note to self.....must do the ironing first.  Boo!

That's all from me today folks, an early morning in work tomorrow and Remembrance Sunday...get out your tissues.  It gets me every year.  I must take after my Granddad.  He would watch the coverage religiously and think of lost friends.....as I will too.  x
Have a great weekend.

As the seasons change time to get out your woolies....or why not make new?!

Morning.
How are you this Thursday morning?

I've just been interrupted by the postman again this morning.  Oh I do love getting parcels.
Mind you this morning hasn't been as exciting as yesterday.
I have ordered a few bits on line for Christmas, as you do......I also think someone else has!
I opened my parcel with vim and vigour this morning, thinking I knew what was inside, only to find that hubby has been shopping on my eBay account again.
Something for the computer....not exciting at all!
Don't you just hate it when that happens?

Anyway back to my post and today I wanted to share with you my first crocheted scarf.  This is actually made with a ball of tartan cotton.  I know, how cool is that.  The pictures don't do the colours justice really but as you can see it's my favourite combination of teal and red.

And a closer look.....

Closer up you can get a better feel for the colour combo.  I did gasp when I bought this cotton.....lets just say I think it was the dearest ball in the shop, but isn't it yummy?
I think so.

So what's on the cards today?
I am having my hair done mid morning....time to wash away the grey poking through!
I'd like to finish the Christmas present I started yesterday and I suppose some jobs should be sorted too.  Not a very exciting day on the cards but lets hope a productive one.
Have a good day and more from me tomorrow.  x

A beautiful box of inky goodness......I want time to play!

Isn't it just fabulous when a crafty parcel arrives.....it's Christmas already!
Today I got this.....first thing this morning.......#excited.

I've removed my address just in case!
This is what was in the parcel....

Oooh I can't wait to play with these beauties.
Yummy, yum, yum, maybe this will encourage me to get my card making mojo back.

Today I have had the joy and fun of the weekly food shop.  Then I had my wee boy home for lunch.
Followed by starting on some Christmas presents!
I can't share more at this moment as I don't want to spoil the surprise.  Intriguing!  :)

We had a lovely bonfire night yesterday evening, full of adventure and entertainment.  The bonfire was super toasty on a cold November night and I enjoyed toasting the biggest marshmallows I've ever seen.  Nomn, nomm.  This was topped up with wine, nibbles and a chat with friends, how the night flew.
A late night for the boys, on a school night too!  Bad mummy!  LOL.
I think they'll be having an earlier one tonight to make up for it.

That's all from me today.  I have drumming lessons this evening and band, but I am hoping to get chance to play later.  Back again tomorrow.  x

Wool work without a hook in sight.....what have I been up to?

Afternoon all, this morning I visited my favourite wool shop, Three bags wool in Aberlour.  Mmmmm I've now taken to stroking wool instead of paper and card!  Strange but true.....if you are a crafter you so will understand, if you are not, you'll just think of me a tad weird....LOL.  If only you knew what you are missing!

This is what I bought.....ho, ho, ho!

I also got a size 8 hook but that is for a different project.  I'm loving the colours aren't you?
Whilst in Aberlour it would have been rude not to stock up on some shortbread with a stop off at the Walkers shop and then onto the lovely deli too.  The deli in Aberlour is just like walking back in time, shelves stocked up high with packets of everything under the sun, I just love wandering around it.  It's amazing what you find and I now have a couple of great ideas for Christmas.
Then it was a journey back to Elgin with a stop off for lunch at the new cafĂ© and shop at Allarburn farm shop....oh the scones are to die for!  The shop is fabulous too, loads of ideas again for Christmas and lots of foodie ideas for partying over the festive season.
In other words a successful morning out.

Back to yesterday, and a while a go, my good friend Irene bought me a kit to make a bracelet along the same style as the rug I am making.  In other words, without using the technical terms, it is weaving woollen threads.  This is a great way to use up odds and ends of leftover wool from other projects.
Here is my finished bracelet.....

Mmm I quite like this idea.  I think a wee bit more practising is requires but I'm loving the effect.
Surprisingly it's in just my colours!
It is a lot quicker to make than the rugs too.

Anyway that's all from me today, I've now got a hard decision of whether to iron, again, or crochet.....you know what won last week!

Fireworks tonight at a friends house, which should be fun if it stays dry.  I don't want to be out too long as Holly isn't too keen on the fireworks, as most dogs aren't, she ended up cuddling on my lap Saturday night when the local displays started.  Bless she didn't know what was going on but she didn't like it.

That's all from me today....catch you again tomorrow.  x

A little bit of Cath Kidston style....my way!

Morning, a little dreich here today, dark clouds looming overhead as I look out my craft room window.
Did you have a good weekend?
I had a busy but pleasant day at work on Saturday followed by a quiet night in.
Did you watch Strictly?!
Shocked result or what?
I can't believe the lovely Aljaz was in the dance off.  I seem to have got a wee shine for him....can't think why?  LOL.  Still at least the judges saw sense although I still think the wrong two couples were in the dance off.

On to Sunday and my what a lazy day I had.  A wee visit to Lossiemouth fish shop to top up on fish and plants for our tank, followed by a Rizza ice-cream.
Rizza's ice-cream has got to be the best locally made, I had rum and raisin and Halloween in a tub!!
Yes Halloween ice-cream.  It was liquorice, strawberry and chocolate with spooky jellies in it and it was black!
I know it doesn't sound very nice and it didn't look the best, but it just goes to show you, should try these things.  My kids made a face and just did not fancy at all but I thought it was scrummy.

On to today and I'm off out shopping shortly but thought I'd quickly share you this bespoke card first.
I was thinking Cath Kidston style when creating this CAS card.

This card has gone to a lovely lady Gail for her big birthday.
Gail I hope you had a fabulous day with hugs from the gang here.  x
More from me tomorrow.  x

We shall remember them....crafty style!

Good evening folks, a late post from me today.
I have had a busy day finally getting on top of my ironing, time to put the washing machine on again.  Vicious circle time!
Look what else I managed to finish.....

I have twelve crocheted poppy's that are ready for dispatch to my lovely friends who ordered them as soon as I posted my attempts on Facebook.  I shall be posting them to you first thing Monday morning so that you will get them in time for Remembrance weekend.
All donations will go straight to the British Legion with many thanks for your support.  x

Today has been spent removing all the Halloween decorations and tidying around.  To be honest I don't know where the day has gone.  Between crocheting, ironing and slow roasting a pork joint.....there was my day gone.

My youngest had a great time last night coming home with an obscene amount of treats, thanks to all locally who gave.  Needless to say they are now away to be drip fed rather than letting him pig out!
It was a lot quieter this year for us with guisers, only about 15 visits. I had nearer 40 last year!
I think the weather must have put some off.

That is all from me today, not a very exciting post, whoops!
Off to work again tomorrow with a family dine it and some Christmas specials on the cards, we are bound to have a busy day.
Then on Sunday I'm off to Inverness Christmas shopping with my best bud....better have a think between now and then as to what I need to buy.  I am so lastminute.com.  My pal will have a list.  I probably will end up with crafting supplies or yarn!  So naughty.

Have a super weekend and more from me on Monday.  x

Happy Halloween....may the spooks be with you!

Hello everyone and Happy Halloween!

Are you ready?
I have decorated my house this morning....the only time of the year I add cobwebs!
I thought I'd share my little pumpkins today as it is Halloween....

I  made them a few years ago when I did ceramics....BK (before kids!)
OK, maybe more than a few years ago.
Buckets of sweets at the ready....and a skeleton stood guard at the front door!  Ready for the fun to begin later.  Will it go something like this.....

Five white ghosts and seven goblins,
Go parading down the street,
Boys and girls with funny faces,
Asking for a treat.
If a goblin rings my doorbell,
I will say "I'm not afraid!"
I will light my jack-o'lantern,
For the Hallowe'en parade.
I will give these scary people,
Apples, candy, cakes to eat;
Then I'll wave goodbye and watch them
As they march off down the street.

Baking done too, with Skull muffins (marbled purple and green!) and Pumpkin/ghostly flapjacks.....

Will the kids get here before it's all eaten?!    LOL.
If my gang have anything to do with it....this could be a possibility......

The house looks empty,
There's no one around,
There isn't a sight,
There isn't a sound.
In the darkness each ear,
I feel the same shame,
having eaten the treats...
Before the kids came!

Well, it would be rude not to taste test everything.....just in case!  That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

It only remains for me to wish you all the best for this evening.  I'm hoping for no nasty tricks and lots of yummy treats but only time will tell.  One thing is for sure....it's going to be a cold one.
I hope the spooks are good to you.

I'm off to finally catch up with a little ironing...boo!

It's nearly time.....get out your broomsticks!

Halloween tomorrow night....one excited boy and one not bothered!
It's an age thing!
One costume out ready to scare his friends parents and I shall be digging out my witchy hat to scare them all back!
Last night we had our carving of the pumpkins and here are the boys finished lanterns.

My older boy, having just seen the Lion King went for that option and did it all himself.  The only suggestion I made was to add the eyes with cocktail sticks.
My youngest made his with his Dad and picked this pattern....

I'm going to take a bit more flesh from the RIP so you can see it better tonight when it is lit.

Goody bags to sort and baking to do, not to mention to quickly decorate the house.

But first, today I am popping out with my good pal Irene to the Auctions and for lunch....I wonder what we will see today?!

You'll also be pleased to hear I chose poppy making over ironing yesterday afternoon and now have 10 waiting to be sewn together.

For those who asked I had a super massage too.....well chillaxed!

Enjoy your Wednesday.  x
