Let it snow, hooking style.

Good afternoon another late post for me today, well it is the school holidays.  Food shopping under my belt today and a little reading, I have now promised my youngest that we will do some crafting together.  I did say Christmas decorations but I have just come across some Halloween blanks shouting out to be decorated.  I wonder if he will like my change of plans?

At the weekend when I was crocheting I also decided to try a couple of snowflakes using thin cotton and a 2.0 hook.  I don't normally try something so delicate but here goes.

The patterns that I followed from this book;

It also suggests that I starch them to give them a more rigid feel.  Gone are the days when I had spray starch in the house, it was a staple in my Navy days but it is something I no longer use.  Guess who forgot to buy some whilst out shopping this morning?
Ironing and starching will have to wait for another day, I also thought a very fine iridescent glitter might be nice too?  What do you think?
In the book they're used as a Christmas tree decoration but I am planning a garland similar to the one on the front of the book.  That's the idea anyway.

It's my Dad's birthday today, it was a mad panic at the weekend to get something sent to him, I am so disorganised just now.  Luckily M & S to the rescue and dare I say a well known card site.  Yes I know how bad am I?!
I don't know what is going on just now but I am certainly not focusing on what I should be.
A wee blip so to speak.  Let's hope normal service will resume shortly!

Love the snowflakes, have you ever tried using sugar to starch crochet cotton?

You really are clever Erika, these snowflakes are gorgeous and would look fabulous in a garland as you mentioned. Hope the afternoon crafting went well and enjoy the rest of your week.

Hello Erika, I love your little crochet snowflakes, they are beautiful and will look so beautiful on your tree. Heavens I can remember when you were just starting to learn to crochet, you have really done so well to be able to make so many projects now, well done.
I'm still pants at it, Kate x

Hi Erika,
beautiful crochet snowflakes.
As Lorraine said you are very clever.
The both designs are very beautiful.
Have you thought of Crafters Companion Glitter Glue Sprays, and they will give you the glitter, and the stiffness needed perhaps.
i am not surprised you have had to buy a card, as you are a very busy lady with work and a family.
Happy Birthday to your Dad.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.

Hi Erika,
noticed somebody said sugar starch, and yes I forgot about that as my Nan used that all the time on her crochet doilies.

Erika I love your projects they are lovely, Tammy younger daughter irons for a lady that likes her table clothes and napkins starched, it reminds her of her TA days. X

Love these Erika...I have a patterned saved to the computer to try (not sure which winter they'll be seen though!). I always used sugar water to starch my crochetting in the past. Carol x
