Today's question can you create a frame using a strip punch?! (A question all papercrafters are asking themselves) ;)

Good afternoon and how are you this Wednesday?  It's the middle of the week already, doesn't time fly when you are having fun.

Yesterday's crafty session changed slightly but I think my youngest eventually enjoyed it.  I ended up decoupaging the pumpkins and he preferred a bigger project choosing his initial.  I always think decoupage is a great project to do with kids whether you use napkins or tissue paper with PVA glue and a model.  It is nice and messy and not too precise, a perfect combination!
Our projects are definitely a work in progress so today I have a card to share.

I took a Stampers Anonymous butterfly and coloured it with Distress inks and then I got to thinking!
(Always a dangerous pastime!)
I wonder can you use a regular strip punch to create a mitered frame around an image?
Why would you want to do this with all the die cut shapes available on the market nowadays I hear you cry.
Not everything is the right size, wouldn't you agree?
I think there is an opening in the market for something like this, an adjustable frame to finish off your projects that you can change as required?!
Now there's a thought.
I should have kept it to myself and madly gone into design mode.  Hey ho.  I'll never make my fortune.
I used a regular EKSuccess punch called plaid.  Now I know the corners are not perfect but I think with a little more playing about it gives a whole other use for those old punches that you haven't used for such a long time, you know the ones, at the back of the cupboard.
Or is that just me?
I cut out four strips of card the same width and punched them, if I had spent more time I'm sure I could have matched the corners a little better but you get the general idea.  I attached the strips to the back of the black card only securing in the middle.  This is so when I mitered the corners I could have a little flexibility in the corners to cut the strips on the diagonal.

My challenge to you today is why not give it a go yourself and see what you come up with.
I'd love to hear from you and see your projects.

I'm away to the auctions now for a nosy and then maybe a little more project time with my wee one in-between a little housework.

That's all from me today, happy crafting.

  3. It's as if you've been in my craft room and seen those old punches at the back of the draw, how did you know? :)
I have this punch too and more besides, which on first sight just had to be bought but then seemed only to be one trick ponies. How great to breathe new life in to them with this great idea, why didn't I think of that before either, {sigh} we are both destined to make our fortune elsewhere.
A great card though Erika and that is the most gorgeous butterfly stamp, love it. Hope you enjoyed your day?
