Textured spray stains and Watercolour distress, my favourite techniques on the day.

Good afternoon all.
It's the middle of the week again.  Where does the time go?
This morning I have been in the hairdressers, adding a little colour to the occasion!
(Or to be put bluntly hiding the patches of grey!)
I now feel almost human again.  I love that about the hairdressers, you go in looking like a shaggy dog and come out a new woman.  (Or is it just me?)

I'm just waiting for my wee man to come home for his dinner and then we've been invited to go to school this afternoon to checkout the latest class topic.  As I missed sports day, being at work, I shall not be missing this visit.

Today I am sharing my two absolute favourite tags from the weekend, then no more tags, I promise.
Firstly the textured spray stains.

We used a stencil with paste and left to dry before adding spray stains.  I love this stencil, it is on my wish list.  I think it will look lovely done in red and white for Christmas, don't you?
I plan to get it in between now and then.
I do love Christmas crafting but always leave it till last minute and really shouldn't as it is our busiest time at work too.  Every year I say I'll start early and every year I get worse.  At some point I am going to surprise myself and actually start in June and be organised for once!

This final tag is called Watercolour distress and it was my favourite of the day.

You add water after the ink before stamping and you get an effect similar to that of watercolouring, hence the name.  I LOVE this effect and now you know why I bought the stamps I did!

Dripping paint and marbling.

Good afternoon, it's the middle of the day already, how did that happen?
As we speak I have the chimney sweep around cleaning the chimney, why am I singing a certain song from Mary Poppins in my head?  As long as he doesn't start tap dancing on my roof, I don't think it would take it!
We normally get out chimney swept in the summer months, apparently its the correct thing to do too. However, it has still be used constantly of late as the weather had been pants for the time of year, wet and windy very much the order of the last week or so, with brief spots of sunshine.
Come on summer where are you?

Today I have a couple more tags for you, I liked the techniques of this tags using the Distress paints.  Now as I mentioned yesterday I don't have many of the paints really because I already have a whole load of acrylic paints having done ceramics before taking up card making.  This was therefore all new for me.

This tag is Distress paint marbling.  The technique is very similar to yesterday's wrinkle free distress, lifting the paint off the mat onto the tag, it creates another fab background.  As it's the paint and not ink it has a slightly different sheen finish to it.

This tag is Drippy paint distress and would be a great one to do with kids.  Oh they'd have so much fun.  The paint is added to the card, spritzed and then allowed to run with gravity.  I like the grungy effect of this one.
I used the same colours for both tags but they're both so different.

I am still busy with my crocheting and a couple of card orders and I didn't manage all the housework yesterday, more of that too.  I thought I'd leave it till after the chimney sweep had finished.
(Or I'd be doing it twice.  And that is just a waste of good energy!)

Monday, Monday....time to share our inky fun from the weekend with Hels.

Good morning all, how are you this Monday?
Thanks for all the wishes for yesterday, yep, another year older, it happens!
I enjoyed a quiet day.  A little reading and crocheting, followed by lunch out.  More of the same in the afternoon and hubby did tea with a little help from M & S.  I got some lovely cards and presents, all in all I did very well, thank you.

On to Saturday and I went through to Aberdeen at The Papeterie for a class with the lovely Hels Sheridan, you can find her blog here.  I have met Hel's previously at the show down in Birmingham but only to speak to.  What a lovely lady she is too, we had a good giggle and learnt loads about distress products.  Some techniques I had done before and some I hadn't.
I thoroughly enjoyed the class, lots of faces I knew so it was also great to catch up with everyone.
What you really want to know is what did we get up to in Saturday's class, which was the one I went for.  It was all about techniques in using the Distress inks, paints and sprays.
Now I do have lots of the inks but have used very little of the Distress paints and sprays.
What better way to practise techniques than to use tags.  Here are mine.

We made 15 tags and there was only really one that I didn't like, this was down to me and not Hel's (instructions not followed to the letter!) so I shall be practising that particular tag again here to try and get a better effect.  I will master it!
Rather than go through them all I thought this week I'd share a few of my favourites,  As for the tags do I keep them as they are, as a reference point or do I go ahead and finish them off?  Decisions, decisions.
The first of my likes today is wrinkle free distress, I guess I liked this one because it is one that I am familiar with, this is one I like to do if I am getting all inky.  Transferring ink to a mat then adding to the tag and spritzing.

I do like this style for a background, in blues and greens, my favourite shades.

This next one is Bleached stamping and stencilling.  This is not a technique I have done before but it will be one I use again.  I love the effect it gives as a background.

It's very subtle this technique, letting the water create the bleached effect.  Love it.

There's nothing like a class to get you inspired back dabbling with a little stamping.
I also managed a few new purchases to play with, well it would be rude not to especially as I had birthday money in my pocket!

If only I didn't have the housework, ironing and a few orders to do first.  Boo.  Maybe if I am very good and get busy I might have time to play later?  I do hope so.

It's Saturday, time for some funny crafting quotes.

Just me then.  I love that Disney film, it's one of my favourites.
BACK to crafting;  I'm sure part of being a crafter is the ability to hoard lots of lovely stash, no amount is too much, you never know when it will come in for the next big project!

Talking of projects, have you ever thought.....

Mmmm did you get away with it?
I tend to find that making something for someone is the only way a project gets to leave my craft room.

You know you are a party animal when....

What I want to know is, what is wrong with that?  OK I might push the boat out on a Saturday night and maybe swap a glass of wine for the tea or maybe a B and C.  Would that be wrong?
It depends how good you are at counting after a couple of drinks.
It could be one interesting project!

This final funny made me laugh and is not craft related but have you ever done this....be honest now.

I blame breast feeding, mine have never been the same.  I can remember a good pal telling me years ago not to do it as she lost her boobs.  It had the opposite effect for me, and that is all I am going to say on that matter.  I'm just glad there isn't a camera by the stairs at work!

Good morning all, how are you this Friday morning?
It's that time again when I encourage you to share an old crafty project with me, just for the fun of it.
All I ask is if you are joining me and want to share your oldie too, leave a wee comment below and I will visit you all over the next couple of days.  It can be any old crafty project as long as you have made it yourself.

Today I have a little black and white number for you.

I have used digital image Annabel from Sugar Nellie stamps coloured with grey prisma pencils.  The Spellbinder dies are Classic circles and Labels Twenty four (I've used two frames and linked them together), together with A4 embossing folder dots (difficult to see in the photo).  The sentiment and die "For you" are by SU with ribbon and pearls from my stash.

All the colours in the world and I've done black and white, but I like a black and white card. It's fun to practise your colouring just by using light and dark shades of the same colour.

I actually have!
I'm not working tomorrow but am heading over to the Papeterie in Aberdeen to do a class with the lovely Hels Sheridan.  I have met Hel's before down at the trade fairs in Birmingham, her samples are amazing.  Can't wait to see what we will be making in her class, I think we shall be getting all inky, can't wait.
I shall also be another year older on Sunday.  I was hoping to have the whole weekend through in Aberdeen but the boys didn't want me to.  
They think that I should be going Quad biking instead.....do you think that's what they might like to do?!  LOL.  
Looking at the forecast for Sunday I think a nice relaxing day at home crafting might be the order of the day.  I did say to them, Mum would rather have a massage or her nails done but they didn't like the sound of that.  Boring!  I must point out that I NEVER get my nails done and on the odd occasion I do, they don't last.  Guess I'm not a girlie girl!
I shall have to wait and see what they have planned for me, one thing for sure it won't be "girlie!"

Crafting as we speak, starting with a clean slate!

Good morning all and how are you this fine Thursday, can you believe, Thursday already?
We have beautiful blue skies here but there's a cold wind or should I say it's a tad breezy (by Scottish standards!)
I know this because as I walked the dog along the beach today I had the joys of sand in my face and the occasional spray of water.  A great way to blow away the cobwebs first thing and to really wake you up for the day ahead.
On the upside it is good drying weather so one lot of clothes is drying on the line and the next lot is washing as we speak.  Can you tell I have a day off?  Lots to do and not enough hours in the day, I also think I run at a different pace on my day off.  Or is it just me?  I tend to slow down the pace.

I have a few projects up my sleeves to show soon you but I need to keep them under wraps for a little longer.  You could say I've been beavering away in the background!

Today I am sharing another creative fellas work.  One of my pals at work partner works with slate and whiskey stave's, he makes some beautiful pieces.  I asked if he could do me some place mats and coasters.  I love them, they're so chunky and even have fool's gold running through them.

They're all obviously the same size but I love the fact that each one is slightly different.

I also had a wee crafty purchase over the weekend, a couple of sizzix dies I have been after for a long time, I finally got them.

Oh I love this poinsettia die and have had it on my wish list for ages after seeing this....

Hello how are you this Wednesday, it's the middle of the week already, how did that happen?
Earlier in the week we had a move around in my dining room and I decided to change a few bits and bobs around.  One of the items I have been meaning to update lately is my corn dolly.  My pal Irene bought wings for her ages ago and I had since bought matching wire for the halo and a wee plaque.  It is just one of those jobs that wouldn't take long but I've never got around to.

I'm really happy with the changes and hopefully she will continue to bring this house good luck.

Now where did my straw go, I'm in the mood for some straw work.

Now for something completely different.....today's post is edible!

Good morning.
Yes I'm posting before work, I must have been organised this morning!  Shock, horror.
At the weekend in work we were raising funds for Prostate cancer, this involved us bag packing, cycling and wearing blue front of house but we also had cakes, tombola and other lovely eats backstage for break time.
I was asked to bake so this is what I took.

Firstly Cadbury's creme egg muffins, a chocolate muffin with a mini egg inside, topped with butter icing and creme egg.

Lemon meringue pie muffins, with lemon curd inside and meringue icing.  I did have mini meringue toppers to add but after giving a wee blast with my blow torch I decided less was more!
These are my favourite muffins just now and there was enough meringue mixture left to make these for tea.

This is actually the first time I have made meringues.  I've never bothered as my BFF makes the best meringues so I have never needed too.  Lazy I know.
I was very pleased with the results for a first attempt, crispy on the outside and chewy inside, just how I like them.

That's all from me, I did manage my man mountain of ironing yesterday and I didn't need to get a new iron either, bonus!
As for today, I'm in work after I've got everyone to work and school then afterwards maybe the usual housework.  Hopefully I might just squeeze a little crafting in.

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside, crafty style of course!

Good morning all and how the devil are you this Monday?
A busy weekend was had this end with my youngest boys birthday on Saturday.  (Thanks for all your birthday wishes for him).
He went to Laser tag with his Dad, brother and pals, all dressed up in camouflage, running around outside in the glorious sunshine.  Needless to say they all had a ball.
He had a huge Colin the Caterpillar cake from work with his name on but unfortunately they were tucking into it before I realised I didn't have a picture.  It was lovely, beautiful thick chocolate on the outside and yummy Swiss roll inside.  Even the staff at the Loft, where he did the Laser tag, thought the cake was huge; more to share!

Yesterday I took him to the cinema to see the new animated film Two by Two, the story about the Ark.  It was a super kids film with a real twist on the story.
It was nice to spend the morning together after all the fun and games of Saturday.  I had a crazy day at work!  Everything that could of happened did, it definitely lived up to the phrase of being "one of those days!"  I was glad when it was home time.
In the afternoon I caught up on a few jobs and did a little crafting for the other blog I am involved with The Great Scheme of things. 
Talking of The Great Scheme of things, I am posting there today too.  This week has to be my favourite colour combo so far, can you guess what it might be?
This card sort of gives it away.

For this card I have started with 3 different strips of sea blue paper and have punched them with different sized circle punches along the edge to create a wave effect. The sand card has been torn to give a rustic effect, then glued over the sea blues. The beach hut is by Hobbycraft and is paper pieced in blues and stone before attaching to the card with 3d foam. I have also added a further base of sand to give it a grounding! The sentiment is by Hobby art craft By the sea and the seagulls are by Kanban crafts Sail away. Finally I added the wee button, the crab before matting and layering on a dark stone colour and adding to the card. 
This is this weeks colour combo, shades of sea blue, stone and sand.  Why not play along?

I loved this palette of colours, but then I am a sea blue kind of girl, and who doesn't love the beach?

So what is on the cards today?
The boys are in school, it is not a bank holiday for them.  Hubby and I are off so time to crack on with some jobs.  I have another man mountain of ironing, which might be hard to do today as my iron keeps tripping the electric, shame, I might have to craft instead!
Or maybe a trip to town for a new iron?  Boo!

It's Saturday time to tickle that crafty funny bone!

Good morning all.  A busy day for me at work today and a birthday boy too.  It's going to be a fun packed day!
Today's crafting funnies all have a crochet theme for a change so here goes........hold on to your funny bones!

I was asked recently by a friend who doesn't craft, how on earth do I know what I am doing?
To which I gave a brief description of what everything meant......to a blank expression of "I'm none the wiser!"  Lol.  I couldn't very well say, "sometimes I don't!"  It can take a while to sink in.

Now that is living too dangerously.....I'd be lost without mine.  The first time I used them it was a real "eureka" moment.  Counting all the time can be more dangerous!

And finally.....

I think I have three of these on the go at the moment!  And that is just crocheting, not including cards, scrap booking, mini books, sewing, the list goes on.  A girl can never have too many projects on the go, just finishing a few would be nice.

It's FFFFFFriday, time to share an old crafting project.

Good morning to you and how are you this Friday?
It's a bit cloudy this morning but hopefully it will brighten later.  Day off today and lots to get through but lets start with sharing an oldie.

I created this card by using 2 x 6 x 12" strips of Ranger Adirondack canvas textured card stock.  I scored the card 1",1 1/2", 2 1/2", 7 1/2",8 1/2", 9" and cut off at 10".  First I covered the front strip with MME The sweetest thing Bluebell paper then I cut two windows with a Classic Spellbinder square die and one of the Back to basic tags dies.  I stamped onto acetate with my sentiment from Hero Arts Treasure the moments and added to the rear of the first strip with foam pads.  The inside of the card is decorated with more Bluebell paper and 3 x butterflies from Spellbinders Les Papillions two and pearls.  The edge of the card is decorated with Edgeabilties dies Classic petal before putting the whole card together.

I haven't made this style of card for a while but I do love the shape.

Tomorrow it is my wee man's birthday so I better get a card sorted today.  Last minute as always!  He has a party which my husband has taken charge of as I'll be at work.  I shall just be turning up for the best bit, cake, and to take the kids home.....result!

At work we are also supporting Prostate cancer this weekend.  We will be bag packing and cycling, as well as working, it should make for a fun time.  A few of us are also baking for the staff too.
With that in mind I better get myself sorted and get that oven on.  Now what to bake?!

In the pink......OMG I'm crafting with PINK!

Good afternoon all, a later post from me today after work instead of before.  I had a busy morning today, having to get my youngest ready to go with his Dad to hospital in Inverness first thing for a check up.  He's been checked and all is fine (that is a matter of opinion!).
My eldest boy had his Geography exam, only two left to do now, French tomorrow and Chemistry next week, then that's him all done till higher time next year.  I needed to drop him off for his bus, I think he was the only one on it today as all the kids not taking exams have a long weekend.  That wasn't organised very well!
Then of course wee Holly needed a quick run to the beach before I went into work.

I've had a busy day in M and S, it's friends and family weekend this weekend and a dine in so it will be mega busy.  The dine in is great this weekend, lots of steak and whole chickens and your free bottle of wine for a £10 or you can super size it and pay an extra £10 for a bottle of champagne which usually retails at £25.  Well it would be rude not to!

Back to today and it is my turn to post over on The Great Scheme of things and the colour combination to share this week is "in the pink."  Now those of you who know me, know I don't really do pink so this was a challenge.  This is what I came up with.

For this card have used a chevron stencil with Distress ink picked raspberry. Then I added a Tim Holtz stencil Splatters over the top adding modeling paste. Once dried I added Versa ink Pixie dust pink glitter, only on the splat.  
The house is from Papertrey ink Love lies here, as is the sentiment.  The house is stamped with Pixie dust and Distress ink Worn lipstick then die cut, layered on to dark pink card and a bit of bling added. The whole image is then matted onto Bazzill pink card.

This card went to the lovely Joyce who has recently moved home and comes to my monthly crop.

I did buy stamps and stencils of splats and other random shapes recently, then wondered what I would do with them? 
I quite like the idea of a splat on a new home card, when you move into a new home the time will come when you want to put your own "stamp" on it!

A rose by any other name, hooking style of course.

Good morning all, another quick post before work today.  A busy day yesterday so no crafting, boo, hiss, no doubt today will be the same too.

This is one of the crochet projects that I started at the weekend, a rose brooch.

It was the added little surprise I spoke of in yesterday's post.
I have used rose and lime cotton yarn, added some bling in the centre, then felt and a pin on the back.

What are your plans this Wednesday?
The only problem with posting early before work is I have very little else to tell you, very boring indeed.
What I can tell you is I managed to get some eyes yesterday for my other hooking project so I can now continue with that this evening.....mmmm the plot thickens!

Gayle and I went to Florida together with Karen and Marlene six years ago for CHA and had a fabulous girlie, crafty week away.  Lots of shopping, eating, crafty stash admiring and most certainly lots of giggles.
Here is her card.

Green gingham is her favourite so it would be rude not to.  I have used Distress inks Peeled paint and Crushed preserves together with gingham stamp from Waltzingmouse, the butterfly is by Papertrey ink Love lives here and the sentiment is also from PI Beautiful butterflies.

What to get her?  MMmmm.  I love it when folk have a Pinterest wish list but not knowing how old it was and what she may already have I settled on a voucher, that way she can get what she wants.

Climbing my own mountain just now, will I get to the top?

Afternoon!
Where did my morning go?
I think someone stole it while I wasn't looking?
Did you have a good weekend?
I had a very lazy one.  Trying to get my boys to do anything just now is definitely fruitless.
I am putting it down to exams and hoping things pick up as the weather improves.
I enjoyed just chilling, a bit of card making, a new book and two new crochet projects, one of which I have even finished.  Now I don't want you to think that must mean the granny square blanket is finished, as is the bunny, nope, I've just put them to one side whilst I start something else.
How many unfinished projects can you have on the go at once?  If only there was a prize!
I'm sure I'd have even a little competition.

Today I have a bespoke card to share with you.  When I was asked for this card I did think, how on earth will I manage this one?
I was asked for a grey climbing wall, a climbing rope and helmet.
I can remember saying to my crafting buddies at the last crop, mmmm, I don't know quite how I'm going to tackle this one.  Then as I chatted I had a brain wave, it doesn't happen very often!
This is what I came up with.

I made the climbing wall with paper and thread, the helmet I drew and then cut out adding colour and glaze to give it a more realistic look.  the rope is embroidered thread and I used some wire to create the carabiners and figure of eight equipment.
I was happy with the final effect  but I do hope her daughter likes it.

Have you ever tried rock climbing?
I'm afraid I am not a natural.  I tried in my late teens and found it very difficult to lift my own body weight with my arms.  I found the view at the top of the cliff was the best bit and the abseiling down great fun, once you get over the initial going over the edge, but the climbing up very tough indeed.
I've never had the urge to give it another go, maybe I would find it easier now?  Probably not!

I better go and get cracking.  I guess my blogging this week might be later in the day.  I have a few things that I was playing with over the weekend to share, so as Arnold would say, "I'll be back!"

Today I have something a little different for you, an ATC.
Now I haven't made many ATC's, this was my first and was part of an exchange with other crafters.

I used stamps by Marion Emberson together with Spellbinder die Labels 8 and Distress stains.
I haven't done stamping and inking like this for a while.  
It makes me want to escape to my craft room and get all inky.  
Maybe this is something I could do this weekend?  
I'm not working and have no plans as yet.  I think I will probably end up out on my bike with the boys if the weather is good but hopefully I will also get some crafting time too.  On the upside, my mountain of ironing has been conquered and I can now put the washing machine back on....it starts again!

Clean and simply it's a girl!

Good morning all, how are you this Thursday, can you believe we're nearly through another week?
My hubby has been away this week on a course and got back late yesterday so it's been a busy week so far.  Little Holly hasn't been getting her longer walks in the morning with me working so today, we've had a lovely long walk.  Another lovely spring morning but the clouds seem to be grouping as we speak, no doubt we will get some rain later.

I was recently asked by my BFF for a baby girl card, she is very much like me in that she loves very minimal cards.

The printing was done on my computer and the stamp by Hero Arts was paper pieced.
Simple and traditional.

On the cards for today, so to speak, more ironing, I didn't quite make it to the top of my mountain and since then it seems to have grown again.  A never ending story!
After that I have a couple of birthday cards I need to make and some more for friends.
Firstly I think I might work myself up to it with a nice cup of tea, it is 11 o'clock after all.
I love my days off.

Embossing Sizzix style but getting inky too, CAS style of course.

Good afternoon, not as late a post as yesterday.  Another productive day at work, dog walked, now it's time for tea.
Whilst I am in the kitchen I thought I'd share another CAS style of card today, this time using a Sizzix embossing folder.

Once the card was embossed I added distress ink Peacock feathers, lightly over the design.
The sentiment is from Papertrey ink Beautiful butterflies, card stock and bling from my stash.
A none lovey dovey Anniversary card.  I don't do gushy cards unless asked for, I prefer clean and simple ones, funny or a little risky!
I guess that is my sense of humour.

My eldest boy had the first of his National five exams today, he seems not to be phased at all by them.  Which is a good thing.
He has English tomorrow and I think that is the only one he is concerned about.
It's a whole lot different now to sitting the old O level examinations both my husband and I took.
It was our first real exam conditions when we did them, nowadays they practise and practise, which I think is a much better idea.  It takes away the sheer fear factor, I for one can remember being a nervous wreck at school.  I hated them.

I also made this style in a square card using a sentiment stamp from Stampers Anonymous Way with words.

Good evening all, I feel that I should bend my knees when saying that and be wearing a Police uniform.  Or is that just me?!
A late post today as I have been at work and then I had all the other usual bits and bobs to do first.
The Internet connection hasn't been the best either, but I am here eventually.

Today I have a card I made at the weekend to show you, I am trying to build up some stock at the moment, I never have the right card made just when I need it.  Do you find that too?
I am also not that organised to be looking in my diary and making a month in advance, where would be the fun in that?

Another CAS card for you, as I've mentioned many times before this seems to be the new "me" style just now.

The photo is a bit dark as I've just taken it tonight but you still get the general idea.  The die cut is by Tonic studios, from the set Garden terrace.  I have added some Stick it before die cutting and then added some silver Deco flakes.  The sentiment stamp is by Papertrey ink Beautiful butterflies.  The black and white card stock is from my stash, as is the wee bling to finish.
Again I quite like the simplicity of this card, the flakes just making the die cut pop out against the black.

I had a productive day at work and have had a quiet evening with the boys.
Time now to go and get supper sorted and then enjoy a little relax time before doing it all again tomorrow.
